The Nautical Institute is changing the requirements for revalidation of the NI DPO and DPVM certificates from 1st January 2024.
To make sure that DP operators keep pace with the developing standards in a fast-changing industry, DPOs and DPVM certificate holders renewing their certificates will now be asked to demonstrate either NI-approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or complete the DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course as well as having completed the mandatory 150 DP sea time days.
All candidates for revalidation will also be required to undertake an on-line revalidation assessment.
To revalidate Limited/Unlimited or Unclassed DP Certificates, DPOs will need to:
Complete a minimum of 150 DP sea time days.
Complete the NI DP Refresher Course (including the NI Revalidation online examination)
OR
be enrolled in a NI-approved Continuing Professional Development programme and undertake the on-line examination.
To ensure all applicants have enough time to meet the requirements, the NI is introducing the changes gradually over the next five years.
